it's funny how the older we get, the more like our parents we become. when i was little, i always dreaded the thought of shopping for boring things like kitchen gadgets, furniture and other home furnishings. yet here i am - 10, 15, 20 years later - and i am constantly thinking about wall paint, picture frames and room layouts. i have so many ideas of how i want my future abode to look like, and posting pictures is a great way for me to keep track of everything.
not to mention september 1 is move out day. time to pack up the college apartment of 3 years (omg, how i'll miss my new home!) and move on to a cleaner, fresher, more grown-up place. currently looking at condos right on revere beach...how sick would that be to live right on the ocean....at only 23?! anyway, here are some ideas of mine for my future home =)
my "kick back, relax and escape room"
separate from the study/library and living room. the walls will be a light, dusty lavender with white furniture and trim. little decoration, bright open windows, and plenty of plush furniture for reading, napping, meditating.
the library
a large, dark, intimidating library. filled with antique books and furniture. dark mahogany/chestnut wood pieces. extra-large paintings. space for my family's oversized organ (for when it finally makes its way into my hands)
the heart of the home
a full-on rustic, country home kitchen. light wood, red trim and gingham prints. overflowing with apple imagery and woodwork collected from craft fairs. extra-large with enough space for storing, canning, drying, preserving, pickling, cooking, you name it. always smelling of fresh-cooked home-made food =)
master bedroom
ethnic - preferably moroccan; maybe native american, mexican, indian. light walls but a dim ambiance. rich berry colors - reds, pinks, purples, blues. exotic decorations, plenty of candles and light fixtures. tiles and etchings. rich tapestries. simply luxurious.
master bathroom
a sleek, modern, unique bathroom. simple pieces with surprising shapes and features. a natural brown color palate with shades of chocolate and sand. tons of stonework to give it a desert spa feel. |
